Summary: Fandom Christmas in July 2021 drabble: July 1 - prompt "Christmas Tree"
Rating: G
A/N - One of thirty-one prompts for the thirty-one days of July. I plan to fill as many of them as I can with two hundred word drabbles.
Memories, Old and New
1. Prompt – Christmas Tree
Fandom – Harry Potter
Ship – Mention of Hinny (Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley), Mention of Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger
Title – Memories, Old and New
Even after all these years, Harry Potter still felt a rush of childish excitement when he walked into the Great Hall on Christmas morning. A dozen snow-covered trees lined the walls, decorated with fairy lights and glittering nests. Small birds fluttered from branch to branch, their song charmed to resemble softly ringing bells.
He ushered his three children ahead of him, Ginny at his side, as they moved toward the other guests. Every year someone arranged a gathering of the remaining members of Dumbledore’s Army and the Order; and every year the number of guests seemed to increase as families continued to expand.
James spotted Rose and Hugo standing with their parents, and they ran off to play as if they hadn’t just seen each other the night before at the Burrow. The kids enticed other children to join their game, and soon the Hall was full of innocent laughter as little bodies ducked behind the enormous trees and crawled under the dining tables.
Hermione and Ron slipped away from the others and joined Harry. They watched the children for a long moment before Hermione leaned her head against Harry’s shoulder and whispered, “It feels like coming home, doesn’t it?”
