It Was Worth the Wait - Fandom Christmas in July 2020
Summary: Fandom Christmas in July 2020 drabble: July 18 - prompt "I've waited all year for this"
Rating: T
A/N - One of thirty-one prompts for the thirty-one days of July. I plan to fill as many of them as I can with two hundred word drabbles.
It Was Worth the Wait
18. Prompt – I’ve waited all year for this
Fandom – Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
Ship – Reylo, Rey/Kylo Ren-Ben Solo
Title – It Was Worth the Wait
He had waited a year for her; and he would have happily waited another if that was what she needed to fully accept their bond and trust him.
Ben couldn’t blame her for being wary, even after what had happened on Exegol. Just because he’d turned his back on everything he’d been raised and manipulated to believe; it didn’t mean he was an entirely new person. They both knew that he hadn’t joined the Resistance because he had some burning noble need to hunt down and fight the remnants of the Final Order and destroy any of Darth Sidious’ clones that might have survived. He had allowed himself to be taken into custody, interrogated, and constantly supervised for months because that’s what Rey wanted him to do.
Every moment of the last year, every indignity, every evening spent meditating to learn how to calm his inner demons, every suspicious look from her friends, every snide comment about his true loyalties…
All of it was worth it when she looked him in the eye in the middle of a Resistance strategy meeting and told the others that she trusted Ben to have her back, that she trusted him with her life.
