Background Check

Summary: Sherlock meets Molly's new boyfriend for the first time.

Rating: G

A/N - One word prompt request – “Perfect" for Martin Crieff (Cabin Pressure), from @penaltywaltz.

This could be a sequel to “I Am the Captain” and “Lost in Space” in the Martin Crieff/Molly Hooper drabbles I’ve written, if you’d like it to be. I want to make it clear that Sherlock is not jealous in this drabble, he’s simply one of the many overprotected friends in Molly’s life who want her to be happy.

Background Check

“It has to be perfect,” Molly mumbled to herself as she fluttered through her home, adjusting pillows and smoothing out lumps on the sofa cushions.

One particular lump refused to be smoothed no matter how many times she told him to move and go home.

Sherlock grimaced. “I told you I wasn’t going to budge until I had a chance to meet this Michael-“

“Martin.”

“-person. Can’t have a repeat of the Moriarty incident.”

“That happened one time!” Molly huffed. “He’s nothing like Jim. He’s sweet and a little bit goofy and . . . perfect.” Her eyes crinkled as she thought of her boyfriend of four months.

Sherlock rolled his eyes. “I’m just going to ask him a few questions, verify a few details from the information Lestrade managed to gather-“

“You didn’t!”

“I didn’t. Lestrade did.” He held up his hands in defence as Molly began to pummel him with a throw pillow. “John suggested it!”

They both rushed to the front door when someone knocked, and they tussled for a moment before she managed to pull it open.

“Oh, hello.” Martin’s eyes flicked to Molly’s in confusion.

“Hello, Melvin. Let’s have a chat.” Sherlock smiled menacingly.

Molly groaned in resignation.
